Bryan Stevenson argues for a type of proximity in understanding inequality that we simply do not see in the economic policies of the War on Poverty. Partisan politics caused the economic power horses of the time to take a moderate approach to tackling poverty which gave greater legislative support to the policies from the War on Crime that led to mass incarceration. My paper will focus on the economic policy that caused the War on Crime. It will reference the ideas of Alice O’Conner in her 2001 book, which state that in order to tackle poverty, the Kennedy administration, and the economic advisors behind it, attempted to spur “economic growth”. This macroeconomic attempt to combat poverty, created through compromise, led to a greater reliance on statistics, an ineffective attack on poverty, and a greater isolation of innercity and minority communities with high crime.

Could you look at one particular researcher or a specific social science finding, rather than at social science generally (which is really multiple disciplines!)?
